Most of mobile users around the globe are still getting to terms with full 3G features. Faster downloads, wide range of services, multimedia etc. Scandinavian users will soon be able ot use a fourth-generation of mobile technology- 4G. Swedish and Norwegian mobile users will be the first in the world to use a 4G mobile network when it’s available in early 2010.
Fourth-generation, 4G, networks are based upon Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. The downlink data speeds can reach up to 100 megabits per second – which is a lot faster than 3G’s 14.44 kbps. This is a serious speed and is fast catching up with your broadband speeds.
All the major telecom providers have agreed to upgrade their existing 3G to 4G both in Sweden and Norwegia. Early trials are available in 2010 where a selected group of end users will test the technology. The 4G will not be readily available for any handsets in the start. You’d need a laptop and a Samsung made special dongle to be able to enjoy 4G.LTE compatible 4G handsets will be launched later by Ericsson.
Again the usefulness and advantages of 4G will be influenced by how much it will cost. Keep in mind that you’ll need a 4G handset and a maybe an extra network charge. We’ll have to wait to find that out.
