Zynga’s cute Facebook application that has swept America in the past few weeks, has in fact become more popular than Twitter. A real-time farm stipulation game developed by Zynga and launched in June 2009,  FarmVille, allowing the users to access to a virtual farm by planting, growing and harvesting virtual crops, trees, and livestock, had already hit more than 60 million users by now with startling statistics.

According to the latest figures, there are about 200 million page views a month of FarmVille, worldwide. The site’s online chat function has recorded an amazing 1.6 billion sent messages every single day and about 2.5 billion photos uploaded a month (approx. 1000 photos/second). Facebook is targeting 23 million unique users a month in UK alone, making each of these people logged on to the website for about 25 minutes daily.

According to Trevor Johnson, Head of Strategy and Planning, Facebook, of all the 90,000+ Facebook applications, about 69 million active users are using FarmVille alone, and that amounts to more number of users than Twitter’s. Farmville had about more than 72 million active users on Dec.11, 2009, according to latest reports. The facts also reveal that the 35+ category are the fastest growing and 53 percent (of all those who log on in a month) come back on a daily basis. He added that Facebook has gained more momentum than Twitter in the past few days in the social-networking area, and has become more than just a social-networking site.
