Well, Mr Zuckerberg continue to stir controversy with his ‘privacy’ theory. Last week at a 2009 Crunchies Awards ceremony in San Francisco, Mark told the audience that privacy is not as important to online users as it once was. He said that the norms are changing and people are not as maniac about their privacy as they were lets say half a decade ago. This has resulted in renewed reaction from internet privacy advocates.
“When we got started, the question people asked was, ‘Why would I want to put any information on the Internet?’,” he said during the presentation of awards to top online startups and makers of innovative technology.
“In the last five or six years, blogging has taken off in a huge way. People have really gotten comfortable sharing more information and different kinds but more openly and with more people,” Zuckerberg added.
. Zuckerberg said that Facebook only changed it privacy setting in line with the users are presently conforming to. “We view it as our role in the system to constantly be innovating and updating our system to reflect what the current social norms are,” he said.
Facebook contends Zuckerberg’s statements were blown out of proportion and were “mischaracterized” and “sensationalized” by some pundits.
