The American whizkid who rose to much acclaim back in 2007 when he cracked Iphone has claimed another major hacking feat by breaking open the so far unhackable PS3 gaming console.
The 20-year old George Hotz, aka geohat, has claimed to have decoded PS3 gaming console which so far has been an unbreakable console. The hacking feat hugely expands what PS3 can do. It can now run in restricted Linux versions and wide range of games which were not allowed on an un-hacked version of PS3. George stated that it took him close to five weeks to break open the console.
“Basically, I used hardware to open a small hole and then used software to make the hole the size of the system to get full read/write access,” he said in an interview. “Right now, although the system is broken, I have great power. I can make they system do whatever I want.”
“I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor,” geohot wrote. “In other words, I have hacked the PS3.”
He actually was all praise to PS3 for having such a foolproof security from day one. That’s teh reason it took three years after release to hack a PS3 console.
