Well, the race to grab the smartphone market’s piece is still on. Even though Android has temporarily pipped Iphone out of the top pedestal, it’s still early days and Windows can surely come to the fore.
If rumors to be believed than Microsft is not staying put after the Windows Mobile’s lack of buzz. They are considering re-branding Windows Mobile 7 and launch two powerful mobile phones running the operating system. The phones would be Windows Phone 7. This media edition of Wndows 7 would have elements borrowed from Zune, Mediaroom for IPTV, in-browser Silverlight and the social side of Xbox Live.
The two phones to be out with WinMo7 are LG Apollo and HTC Obsession. LG Apollo would have one of the snappiest mobile processor, Snapdragon 1.3 GHZ. There will be a 3.8 inch touchscreen and 10 MP camera and a dual-mode CDMA/GSM mode that’ll work on two different networks simultaneously. THis could be the first WInMo7 handset to be released in September later this year.
The second phone, the Obsession of HTC, less ambitious than the first one, would sport a 1GHz Snapdragon and a lower resolution 3.7-inch AMOLED screen. A 5-megapixel camera and the use of GSM-related standards complete the configuration of the handset that would resemble the Imagio.
Just 2 WinMo7 phones? The handset OEMs aren't exactly flocking to Microsoft's next OS.
Will anyone be still selling Windows Mobile 6.5 phones? More importantly, will anyone want to buy one with the 6.5 platform coming to an end?
I think Microsoft's next mobile OS will be D.O.A.
Yeaps for now only two WinMo7 phones, as the rumours suggest. Who do you think will want to get away from Android at this point of time.
Besides, Windows has already been defeated in mobile wars, I reckon. Whether WinMo7 manages to rekindle the battle once again remains to be seen.
